As the old saying goes, the job isn't over
until the paperwork is done. However, the
sheer volume of documentation generated by a
major project can be almost overwhelming.
Design, working and record drawings must be
developed, and all test records signed and
retained. Long after the installers have
moved on to other projects, end-users
require accurate, well-ordered Operation and
Maintenance Manuals to carry out routine
servicing and emergency repairs to valuable
and crucial equipment.
Sadly, it is often the case that the
documentation package which should serve as
testament to the adequate management of a
major project is neglected. Contractors
often submit only the bare minimum of data,
if they submit any at all. Test records are
often incomplete or inadequate, with the
effect that those trying to subsequently
interpret them are left confused as to the
true levels of plant performance. Due to the
user-unfriendly format of the project O+M
manuals, facilities managers and maintenance
engineers often have difficulty in locating
the information they need. When an emergency
situation occurs, and swift access to spare
parts lists or plant repair instructions is
required, the situation can become serious.
We can supply Documentation Management
packages which are tailored to suit all
types of project. Services can include the
vetting and development of proformas,
liaison with suppliers, contractors and
manufacturers to ensure delivery of
project-specific catalogues, and assistance
with the development and verification of
project record drawings.
Complete O+M Manuals can be developed using
our own tried-and-tested formats, with the
associated delivery of data by the parties
responsible being managed and tracked from
an early stage. The end product can take the
form of hard-copy, bound volumes, or be
adapted into an automated electronic manual,
where information is accessed via the
end-user's computer.
