Keeping the occupants of Hong Kong's
prestigious buildings comfortable costs
money...
TOO MUCH MONEY,
in many cases.
For a variety of reasons, building services
equipment often runs in an unnecessarily
wasteful manner. For example, your system
may be over-designed, and working harder
than it needs to in order to keep your
offices at the correct temperature and
humidity. Poor installation may have led to
ductwork leakage and the wastage of large
quantities of conditioned air. Automatic
controls may have been poorly set up at T+C
stage (or, as is often the case, not tested
and commissioned at all). Because the
correct procedures for measurement and
calibration were not followed, expensive BMS
systems often act on the basis of spurious
information, allowing plant under their
control to operate improperly and
inefficiently.
But is it such a big deal if your designer
was over-generous in his calculations, if
your ductwork contractor cut corners, or if
your T+C technician was inexperienced and
unqualified? Does it really matter that your
fans or pumps are running a few RPM too
high? Yes, it certainly does! What many
people don't know is that power consumption
rises exponentially in comparison with the
work that electrical components actually do.
Therefore, a twenty per cent over-run on a
fan motor might see its fuel consumption
rise by fifty per cent! A thirty percent
excess could mean that your associated
energy bill is double what it should be. Add
together the inefficiencies of all the
pumps, fans and electrical motors serving
your offices, and you might find that you
are needlessly
THROWING AWAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
every month.
So, what can we do about it? Well, we can
swiftly and scientifically locate and
rectify the sources of needless energy
wastage. By detecting inefficiency, removing
its causes and pinpointing optimum equipment
running settings, we can ensure that your
plant and equipment continues to keep the
occupants of your building comfortable,
while at the same time helping
YOU SAVE LOTS OF MONEY!!!
And a final thought... Hardly a day passes
without new headlines about global warming
and the damage that our ever-increasing
energy demands do to our planet. Wouldn't it
be good to know that, by cutting out
needless waste, you have not only helped
yourself financially, but have also done
something to
HELP OUR ENVIRONMENT?
